I think BB has a real shot at sticking with the Carolina Panthers. It seems
to be a good situation for him. I checked out their Roster on their web
site, and here are the QB's on their roster as of today and the "Levinson" Depth
Chart:
1) Jake Delhomme--Obviously the Incumbent Starter, who will remain so.
2) Chris Weinke--The back-up to Jake D. from Florida State. Sixth-year pro,
but he is 33 years old, so his future is somewhat uncertain.
3) Stefan LeFors--Coming back for second season with Panthers. Was 4th
round pick last year (121st overall). Former starter at Louisville. The main
competition at this point for BB.
4) Brett Basanez.
The key, of course, is LeFors. If Panthers think he can handle the back-up
job, then BB could hang on as No. 3. Weinke, although a former Heisman
winner (2000), has never excelled in the pros, and couldn't hold starting job
when given to him. From what I remember he is very tall, has a pretty strong
arm, but has the mobility of the Venus de Milo. Maybe John Fox and Dan
Henning (Offensive Coordinator) will go with youth and keep LeFors and BB. Or
perhaps they will "taxi" BB (or whatever the "reserve" squad is now called).
