My understanding was that Michael Thompson's heart was a convenient excuse.  The real reason he is not on the team is because he wasn't interested in going to class.

I recall this being mentioned by multiple assistant coaches at FBC events.

I don't want to crucify MT, but I can't let statments pass making our season woes seem like "bad luck" vs. a "bad fit" with Northwestern.

TJ on the other hand was a risk on the same level as Byron Sanders, Matt Danielson, and Regis Eller.  Anytime a player has money/fame independent of the sport you run a risk of "lack of dedication".  This I can not blame on the coaches for in any way.

Both TJ's decision to go pro and David Thompson having an undetected 
congential heart defect are simply the latest in a long line of examples 
of poor coaching.
