Wow! Quick--let's hire him back as co-assistant head coach/offensive
coordinator (or at least co-coordinator)! Jerry Brown and Garrick McGhee
won't mind, will they? :) After all, it would be a step up in prestige for
Brown to be on equal footing with his old boss, and McGee graduated in '96
and is the same age or a year younger than Pat Fitzgerald. Can you imagine
what it would be like? GB would be reunited with Fitz (and Brown). Of
course, I don't imagine that there's any real chance of that happening--I
just don't know if Gary's ego could take it--but it's fun to dream. Hey, is
anybody on this list close to Mark Murphy?

I attended spring practice yesterday and you wouldn't believe who was
there...none other than Gary Barnett. I did a triple-take when I saw him on
the sideline.
Barnett is spending a couple days at NU taking notes on the spread offense,
which probably means he's not done coaching yet. Walker introduced him to
the team at the end of practice as "the man who took the Purple to
Pasadena."
I talked to Walker and a few players after practice. You can read my article
on wildcatreport.com - which includes notes on the QB battle (Bacher missed
practice due to illness), the position switches, who's wearing orange and
red, etc. - but it requires a subscription.
I just wanted to pass along the surprising news about Barnett's presence to
the list, though. It certainly shocked me.
