[NU Sports] GMU

It's just a great story - you gotta be cheering for
GMU in Hoosierland this weekend. Too bad they can't
move the Final Four to Hinkel Fieldhouse.:)

But on the plus side for teams like NU, it shows what
can be done when you have a committed coach and a core
of solid seniors who play well together. In this era
of early departures and some who never even attend
college, it's more and more possible for mid-majors
with experience to make this type of run. Not likely,
but more than just the pipe dream it'd be if the NCAA
still had the likes of Carmello and had that James kid
from Ohio in their upperclassmen years right now.

Which is why it was so unfortunate to have TJ go pro
and Thompson suffer injury this year. This would have
been the year we had that type of core seniors to make
a splash. Not a GMU splash, but just a chance at the
Madness would be nice!:) The '94 team with Baldwin,
Rankin, Leslie and Kirkpatrick was about as nice of a
senior class as NU has had in decades and they made a
nice run (if only we'd have had a league tourney
then!:) ). Hopefully this crop of recruits is solid
and grows together as a team through the next four
years in Evanston to give us that chemistry and
experience.

But the Patriots' run is one of the great sports
stories -- at least MSU's opening-round choke looks
respectable now. And I'd love to see 'em go all the
way!
