[NU Sports] Northwestern State

It is worth pointing out, though, that NW State is a
darling today because college basketball - unlike
football - gives the small schools automatic invites
to the "Big Dance" and gives them the chance to steal
the spotlight from the BCS leagues.

If NU were in a small league, we might have a better
chance at making the dance in basketball.:) Although
in football, you'll never see a BCS bowl with a team
like Northwestern State in it.

Seems like the Cats were everywhere today -- in the
later moments of Villanova's relatively close win the
announcers were talking about the first Final Four (or
actually how it was a single game and not semis at the
same site as the final) and mentioned Evanston ...
Billy Packer, master of tact and class that he is,
chuckled that it was as close as Northwestern was ever
going to get to the tournament. But they mentioned how
their producer (or chief technician?) was an NU alum,
so at least we got some good pub out of it.

As for the Cats in the Dance, it's going to take some
serious work and committment to basketball. I
sincerely hope Carmody can do it, but his days may be
numbered as this year seemed like our year to break
the streak (pre-TJ's idiocy and Thompson's bad luck)
-- next year will be tough with losing VV. It's tough
to say what it will take besides a massive effort all
around, as you're literally building on zilch.

Hope it can happen soon ...
