Smart move - it won't be hosting another Super Bowl
and there's no need for a school like Stanford to have
a stadium that big except to rake in money every other
year when Notre Dame visits (wonder if ND will still
visit the smaller stadium, given how they turn up
their nose at Dyche's 50,000 capacity and the lower
gate take). It won't get that much bigger moving it to
Candlestick or PacBell (or whatever corporate entities
have bought those stadium names these days).

That seems to be a whole west-coast attitude. You hear
of USC's alumni at games, their obnoxious band and the
stars who hopped aboard the bandwagon this year ...
but rarely the students. Ditto for UCLA or Cal.
Washington and Oregon have some loud home fields, but
in general the big student body and frenzied fans is
something you find in the SEC and Big Ten.
