Growing up in Los Angeles, we had Vin Scully with the Dodgers, Dick
Enberg with the Angels, Chick Hearn with the Lakers and Bob Miller with
the Kings. All truly amazing broadcasters, and none of them were
homers. None of them ever used the word "we" on a broadcast. Coming to
Chicago was somewhat of a shock. The announcers were not only homers,
but they simply didn't compare to the L.A. broadcasters. Yet, somehow,
I became a Cubs fan while I was there, and I still suffer with the
Cubbies to this day. Scully isn't what he used to be, but he's still
pretty darn good. Not having Chick Hearn around anymore is a great
loss. There will never be anyone quite like him. -- Jim B.
