I thought the Harry/Jimmy Piersall broadcast team during the 80's for the
Sox was fun. Harry saw himself as a reflection of the fans in the stands,
and the Sox fans of those days were a rowdy bunch. So he and Jimmy did a
lot of venting over the airwaves and eventually talked themselves out of a
job.
Harry went to the north side and again took on the character of those fans,
drank a lot, lost track of what was going on in the game, and generally had
a good time whether the team won or lost. (couldn't resist) <g>
BTW I agree with you that Irv described a bears game like he would describe
paint drying on the wall. I never could understand why he got that job.

Yeah, they're hard to listen to, unless you're a rabid Sox fan, I suppose.
But I always though Harry was insufferable, even back when he was doing the
Cardinals on the radio, and I thought he got worse when he moved to Chicago.
His final few years were truly awful, because he had trouble remembering
what team he was doing.
I wonder how many on this list are old enough to remember Jack Quinlan, who
preceded Vince Lloyd on Cubs radio broadcasts in the 60's?
Swing-and-a-miss!
However, the worst radio announcer I ever heard for any sport still has to
be Irv Kupcinet, doing Bears games on WGN. The guys that WGN have doing
Cats games are much better.
