Hard to say without knowing more about the kid.

But since it is fun to speculate:

Maybe he was impressed by RW's reputation of turning small RB's into stars.
Maybe he was impressed by NU's academic reputation.
Maybe he was impressed by NU's high graduation rate.
Maybe he was impressed by the offer of a $180K education for free.
Maybe he really wanted to play in the Big Ten.
Maybe he felt that if he didn't take the NU offer, NU was going to offer
another RB.
Maybe he had grown tired of the whole recruiting process and wanted to get
on with his life.
Maybe his girl friend is going to NU.
Maybe he has family in the area or relatives who are alums.
Maybe he is a White Sox fan (that has to be it).
Maybe he likes snow.
Maybe he likes Chicago hot dogs.
Maybe he likes the blues.
Maybe he is Irish.
Maybe he likes the color purple.

Whatever his reasons, he made a darn good decision and hopefully he will
have a great athletic and academic career and find that Northwestern was
even better than he could have imagined.

Jeff

"Without having met Walker or making a trip to Evanston, Concannon committed
last week to the Wildcats as the third member of the 2007 recruiting class."

In the quote from the above referenced story; is this unusual for a
perspective player to commit without ever having met the coach, his staff
or his teammates? Does this speak well for the program and/or the
University? I am thinking the recruiter must have one hell of a convincing
sales pitch.
Perplexed.
