All of the "Second Coming" euphoria about the Fitz appointment now seems to
be morphing into "diminished expectations" about 2006 and people seem ready
to accept a losing season or even worse. I'm sorry. A good Big Ten program
reloads and doesn't just go into eclipse for a few seasons. Cats have solid
foundation this year on which to build (O Line, one of top RBs in the country,
experienced LB/DB combo) and four very winnable non-league games to start the
season and sort out the QB issue. If they can begin 4-0, then two or more
W's in the Big Ten season would give us a perfectly decent season and a bowl
game.

If we're not up to the likes of New Hampshire or Nevada, then God help us in
the Big Ten. The most compelling case for PF was the continuity and
stability that he'd bring to the Walker program. Either PF is ready to be a head
coach or is not. I do not think we wait until 2008 or 2009 to make that
judgment.
