Mike Dunbar had been a head coach before and tended to slip into "coach speak"
faster than any of the other assistants. I personally found him open to
answering almost any question he could but he normally wouldn't talk about which
kid should play where when there was still doubt.
I do remember a couple of QBs saying that they "trusted" Dunbar's coaching
ability - it might have been a quote from Baz.
FWIW - I've learned a few things from Colby, his use of speed on the outside,
etc. NU has always been a couple of players short of having a stiffling defense
and this year it appears that we're at least more balanced than we've been for a
long time.
For example - we had Loren Howard at one end, but nobody as quick to balance
him, it was possible to double up Howard and still get your plays off.
The year we should have had both Luis and Barry C together, Castillo hurts his
arm and plays as the one handed man.
Jeff Backes and Marquice Cole would have been good together, but first Marquice,
then Jeff have season ending injuries [a year a part]. We've always had the
ability to find a couple of good Safeties, but it takes 4 guys back there, not 3
1/2.
One of the strengths of NU, even with having to replace a legend, is that the
assistants like to coach, and its one reason I think Fitz just might be able to
continue and expand on the Walker years, not just try to recover from the events
of last week.
