Fellow Wildcat Faithful,

The point has been made by several members of this list that we might benefit
from a 1-year transition coach. I think this option is worth exploring. Though,
I would adamently oppose having Gary Barnett back. Like others have said, his
less than graceful exit is still too bitter a memory. 

In an effort to take the pressure off the current staff, perhaps we need a well
known 'football personality' to accept a 1-year-and-1-year-only contract. Keep
the rest of the staff intact and plan to conduct a full-on search after the
season. I think that asking a member of the current staff to take
responsibility and field all of the media questions might be too much to ask
(even though I really hope Pat Fitgeral will be our top guy one day). 

I know it seems a bit crazy, but a 1-year contract with Lou Holtz or Mike Ditka
might make a whole lot of sense. The celebrity factor would take the spotlight
off of our players, and their age would eliminate serious speculation of going
beyond one year. Also, they are both beloved in the Chicago sports media.
