[NU Sports] Great News For Northwestern

On January 6, 2006, all Alumni Admission Council (AAC) Directors were sent an 
e-mail containing this bit of great news:

<<This year, we have the highest number of freshman applications ever 
received in the University's history.  For fall 2006, as of 01/05/06, we've recorded 
a total of 17,626 freshman applicants and we still are opening buckets and 
buckets of mail!  This beats the previous all-time record of 16,674 that was set 
for fall 1997.>>

Needless to say, this is tremendous news. Aside from the fact that our 
rankings will rise accordingly, it means the people who really count - the students 
who want the best possible education - are increasingly recognizing 
Northwestern University in this regard. Hats off to President Henry Bienen, who I 
believe must get credit for Northwestern's enhanced academic profile.
