NU actually does have a rather large club sports program in addition
to the very large intramural sports program. There are a number of
club teams including mens/womens rugby, mens/womens ice hockey, mens
fencing (women are varsity), mens/womens sailing, mens/womens crew,
and others that I can't think of (but are probably advertised
somewhere in NU propaganda). They don't get much support, though, and
have been asking for more money from student funding recently to
support their programs (buy equipment, rent fields, go to
tournaments). I knew quite a few people who participated on the club
teams listed above and it's a good program for those interested in
competition beyond intramural but don't want to be on a varsity team
(if one is even available).
