If you're that interested in football only, don't go to college games
- that is what the NFL is for (usually they don't have any halftime
entertainment except at the Super Bowl). College football is more
about bringing together students, faculty, alumni, and others
associated with the school to support the team and the school than
just watching football. If the team was not associated with the
school i would say less than a fourth of people would go (and that is
probably an over-estimate at NU). The bands at halftime are part of
the school environment and help support the team and entertain those
in the stands. The people in the band (of which I was one) get a
chance to use their talents to help support the school.
If you don't want to be a part of it, just go to the bathroom at
halftime and listen to your radio in a stall while eating some nachos,
since nobody is really stopping you from doing so. Or just watch the
game on TV, where you get a better view and can watch any other game
or sport you wish, meanwhile those that want to support the team and
school and those who just love the college football atmosphere can
enjoy the game.
