While none of our recent law school grads are running for President (and
given what we have had to choose from, I don't consider that necessarily a black
mark against our beloved University), we had a major party candidate (and a
darn good one, albeit a two-time loser to Dwight Eisenhower) in Adlai E.
Stevenson, who was the Democratic nominee in 1952 (the year of my birth) and 1956,
and who ran again unsuccessfully against John F. Kennedy for the Democratic
nod in 1960:

In addition, both George McGovern (who lived in Latham) and Richard Gephardt
matriculated at NU.
Liberals all, so I have no doubt Bob Schooler will weigh in with some
counter-history.:-)
Having said that, I agree with your analysis overall.
