I dunno about the transfers we lost, but the 1994 NIT
team was a bunch of seniors who were playing well
together and really fun to watch at the end of the
year. Despite earlier transfers, coaching changes,
etc. they were on fire at the end of the season,
beating top 20 teams Michigan and Wisconsin at home to
secure the NIT bid. Had the Big Ten had a tournament
back then, I think that was our best shot at the NCAAs
given how hot and confident that team was at the
moment heading into March.
The NIT game vs. DePaul was awesome and showcased the
kind of atmosphere Welsh-Ryan can be when it's packed.
The next game vs. Xavier unfortunately came while
students were gone on spring break. Pete Gillen was a
pretty good coach and the Musketeers escaped, but that
93-94 team of seniors was one heck of a team.
Glad to hear we have a good recruiting class coming in
- hopefully they can stay together with no injuries,
transfers, inflated NBA dreams, etc. and be THE team
remembered forever in Evanston as our first NCAA team.
GO CATS!!!
