Private elementary and secondary schools are usually more about who
attends them (or who sends them) than the quality of education received.
People send their kids to private schools because:
A. They can (usually) afford to.
B. They think it will keep their kids from having to mingle with the
wrong sort, usually that refers to socioeconomic factors or religion.
C. In the case of boarding schools, it gets the kids out of the house.
D. They went to private schools. (I've been told that over half of the
kids at Choate have parents who went there, for example.)
E. It is considered a ticket to the Ivy League, though I suspect that's
nowhere as true now as it was 25 years ago.
It should come as no surprise that most of the members of Congress and
senior government officials who have school-age kids send them to
private schools, either in the DC area or in their home states. For
some (such as Chelsea Clinton) there are some legitimate security issues
involved, but that's the exception.
