At the risk of either reading things into events too much, or being considered a
"shill" for the present coaching staff...
I think one reason we had so many really late commits this year was that some of
these kids were waiting for offers from teams that were recruiting them for
their HS position.
For Example:
McManis is coming as a cornerback, not a running back.
Lee Coleman is coming as a WR instead of as a QB.
I'm sure both were holding out for offers at their "other" position from other
colleges, but decided eventually to take the shot at the Big 10 in their
"secondary" [in their mind] position.
Incidentally, those who were blaming coach Dunbar for the recruiting class
should remember that Pat Fitzgerald is the recruiting coordinator, not that the
"rc" has that much to do with the actual recruitment of players - that's usually
based on the ability of the area recruiter and the position coach.
Check out the assignments by state in the media guide and you can see who
recruited where and who.
