NU coach irked by boosters

This is a article has a much worse quote:
"Nobody out there has ever had to walk into an arena with 50,000 people and had to make a kick that meant anything. Most of them would crap their britches over a $2 Nassau, let alone a kick on national TV. If I hurt somebody's feelings out there, that is too bad."
We were at the press conference. We did not clap for the kicker as we believe it is a problem with a lack of a dedicated special teams coach not with talent.
Recruiting rankings are depressing, but obviously GB and RW are able to outproduce many teams with much better recruiting. To that end either they are better coaches or better recruiters. Either way you have to give them their due.

Year after year, many top-rated newcomers fail to pan out

I news.googled -- northwestern recruiting -- It gave me the standard articles, but it also have a few articles of recruits we lost out on.
One guy had a toss-up between us and stanford and eventually chose stanford.
Another guy was recruited as a defender(DB) and vandy said he could try offense(WR) and he liked that flexibility.
RW says he plays straight with the recruits. If that is true maybe RW looked at the depth chart and told him that he had a lot of depth at WR and did not need another one. For that I would give him credit. GB used to like to tell the story about D'Wayne Bates and being offerred at NU as a QB. When D'Wayne came in and was low in the depth chart, GB encouraged/pushed him into WR. Were GB's intentions good? What if RW would have told Bates the likely truth and Bates went elsewhere?
An interesting story how the other half lives...

"I consider the source," coach Randy Walker said later: "Nobody out there has ever walked into an arena with 50,000 people and had to make a kick that meant anything. He didn't have his best day [in the Sun Bowl], but it's unfair when people have no idea, no clue what it's like in that place."
