If you had told me before the non-conf season that NU would lose to
Cornell, edge Wheaton (Div-III)& N. Fla (who?) & Mayaguez (who?), lose a
tight one at Stanford, lose to Tenn Tech on a neutral floor, and beat
DePaul & Miami & whip Utah...
I would've called you NUts.
Gotta be among the oddest 8-3 stretches ever.
Happy holidays, all.

What's probably most important about this win (over a quality opponent)
is that our team should now feel that they can be competitive when they
walk on the court. NU's repeated failures in hoops are really in the
nature of a self-fulfilling prophecy. We (the team, the fans, maybe
even the coach and AD) do not expect to make the NCAA's, so we don't.
It's like Rutgers in football now (and NU on the gridiron pre-1995;
actually, pre-Notre Dame that year), we need a few wins at the right
time to instill a belief in the team that they SHOULD win, not that
they probably will lose. It's a long slog, but maybe this victory will
lead somewhere. At age 54, my window for an NCAA appearance is maybe
another 25 years or so if I am lucky, so I hope that we start the climb
now.:-)
Happy Holidays to all.
