Playing OSU and UM (teams which always just reload) early is of course not a
pleasant prospect, although in 2004 we took advantage of the opportunity in
one of Northwestern's greatest wins ever. There is, however, a huge
advantage in those first three games at home against very beatable opponents. If we
go 3-0, then we have taken a big step to bowl eligibility despite what might
happen against the Bucks and the Wolves. Oh,sure, Cats have stumbled against
weaker, non-league opponents in the past, but that simply is no excuse. They
were out-played and out-coached by teams with less talent. Period. Based
on the 2006 experience, I hope coaches and players will be determined to be
prepared next season for those non-league games and then we'll see what
happens against OSU and UM.

Has anyone noticed that in September next year, we get four home games
(Northeastern, Nevada, Duke, and Actual National Runner-Up Michigan) and
one away game (against the defending Actual National Champions, Ohio
State)?

Man, that'll be tough. Thoughts?
