[NU Sports] a minor point/more on BCS

Steven, you have may have taken one of my points a
little too specifically: I certainly would never argue
that the BCS has made college football so successful
nationally (though the arguments and disputes keep CFB
in the spotlight).

My larger point was that D-I college football has
prospered mightily for decades without a playoff and
will continue to do so.

I am not especially a fan of the BCS but if it keeps a
playoff at bay, I'm OK with it.

I could go either way on conference winners only in
the BCS but that rule would mean that BCS
representatives would be picked not by polls or
computers but settled on the field -- and directly so
most of the time (unless two Big Ten -- the only
league without a complete round-robin or championship
game -- teams are tied and they didn't play, but the
odds of that are small).

I agree with Steven: let's hope that this time next
season the talk is of OUR bowl (our BCS bowl, one can
dream)!

"We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men, not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were for the moment unpopular." -- Edward R. Murrow, 1954.
