First to compare our September team with our November team is
completely unfair. With Bacher for all 12 games we would at least 4
more wins.
No playoff. Go back to the traditional Rose Bowl and get rid of a
third of the bowls.
The only problem with that is how to invite the teams to the lesser
bowls who actually are glad to be there. For example Miami(FL) is
going to a crap bowl and they are disappointed, while Ohio is excited
to be in a crap bowl.

Let's start a "draft Boise State" movement to get the only other
undefeated
team into the championship game. Isn't that what happened to BYU some
years
back? And they won!
This virtually annual thousandths-of-a-point juggling match is
tiresome.
Time for a playoff system. Lo-o-o-o-ong past time. The lesser
college
divisions have been doing it for years without imploding or having its
football teams flunk out of school. As to damaging the bowls,
precisely how
much injury could we cause to the likes of the Alamo Bowl et. al.?
They
never represent the best teams in the country anyway, and the
spectacle
associated with the larger bowls will continue as before. You could
make
one of the grand old bowls the championship game each year, which is
precisely what is done now. A playoff would probably require cutting
at
least one regular season game and forcing the regular season to end by
Thanksgiving, but the resulting income to college football would more
than
make up for the shorter season.
P.S. Hang our heads in shame. New Hampshire yesterday lost to
Massachusetts for the second time after barely beating Hampton, Maine
(in
OT), Hofstra, Delaware, being edged in OT by Northeastern, and getting
thumped by that traditional football powerhouse James Madison. Were
we not
ready to play football last September or what?
