Fellow Wildcat Faithful,
Normally a news story about the downfall of a conference foe (or ND) gives me a
feeling of schadenfreude. However, I must say that I could take no delight from
the news today that Maurice Clarett was arrested again. Not just arrested
actually, this came with all the trimmings (guns, booze, mace, chase,
helicopter, etc).
tOSU is certainly not responsible for his recent actions, but I can't help but
think that the warning signs were there during his one year in Columbus. I just
get the feeling that tOSU needed him to win, so they used him for football and
ignored all of the other negative aspects of his character.
College coaches spend too much time with their athletes not to know which ones
need more attention and structure. If they cared about Clarett as a person,
they probably would have redshirted him and got him a counselor and a tutor.
Are the tOSU coaches responsible for his arrest yesterday? No. Are they
responsible for the fact that he didn't stay at Ohio State and eventually move
on to the NFL (or some other non-criminal job)? I say, yes.
Victory & Honor,
Jim
