[NU Sports] Walker to get long-term contract

No complaint about the dissent here either -- the
delete key is one simple step away if ya don't like
it!

I will quibble with one point in John's e-mail though
about only filling the stadium when "Illinois and
Wisconsin come to town." ... we'd have a better chance
of filling Dyche if we moved the Illinois-NU
basketball game there. Illini fans almost follow their
team as poorly as Hoosier fans, even to Chicago. 

It'd take an 11-0 season, a special appearance by that
popular Chief Ill-ini-wek (the kids love the
dancing!:) ) and a coin toss by Dee Brown, Kenny
Battle and Lou Henson to even get those bandwagon fans
from Chicago to dig out those hideous orange sweaters
a couple months early, find a CTA map to Ryan Field
instead of the United Center and come cheer on the
Ill-ini for football. The bandwagon Meeeshigan and
dOSU fans from the Windy City are far more supportive
of their teams as they infiltrate our home field.

Perhaps John meant the other U of I and all those
bumblebees, who like those Cheeseheads, require only a
whif of meat on a grill and the sound of a six pack
being pulled to gas up the RVs and head on over to the
big city. 

As for the contract? Good news. It rewards a solid
building job in Evanston and it provides the NU
program with something it's never had before -
stability for the future. We can stop worrying about
whether the coach will leave or get snagged by a big
school or fired and build on the last few years.

The long nightmare of baseball, golzzzzzz, er, golf,
and toy cars going in circles masquerading as sports
television on weekends can't end soon enough. Bring on
the pigskin!
