Food for thought: Jordan was 1st on the depth chart following the 2004
season. Roberson was 2nd, and Conteh and Sutton were fighting it out for 3rd. So
Jordon and Roberson go down, Sutton beats Conteh out for the 3rd spot, and
re-writes NU and Big 10 record books for freshmen.
I'm presuming that Sutton is our #1 back, but is RW leaving the door open
for Terrell? There's been hints of a 2 back system, much like Wright and
Herron shared the ball in 2003. If so, what's the word on Conteh and Roberson?
If Roberson doesn't sprain his ankle, he would've "carried the mail" last
year.
This is a delectable problem. Three backs who've been considered the
feature back, with an offensive line returning 5 starters. (Rees returns,
replacing Streif indirectly) . If we can get an "average" day out of whoever wins
the QB derby, we could feature a running game more potent than the usual
outstanding ground game we've become accustomed to.
It may be in Conteh's best interest to red-shirt, now that Jordan is
healthy. Even with Hamlett on the other side of the ball, it's awfully crowded in
the backfield.
My typing is too slow to begin a discussion about defense, but I'm hoping
with our young guys getting a year of work, it will result in less points
and yardage. Getting Heinz back won't hurt either.
Let me be the first to day it. Ignore the annuals in June when they have
us penciled in 8th place. We will be in the First Division. Again.
2006...IT'S BANGIN' TIME!!! GO CATS!!! Eric
