I didn't see the Ohio State vs. Miami game, but I've read about it. They are
running the spread offense much of the time. Apparently, many Ohio State fans
are upset that they revealed so much of their new offense prior to the Texas
game. Tressel claims a major reason the spread has been adopted is to get more
one on one coverage for both Ted Ginn and Santonio Holmes.
But I seem to recall there were rumblings about Ohio State adopting the
spread after they lost to us last year. Can anyone remember details about this? Did
anyone see the Ohio State spread against Miami of Ohio? If so, is it similar
to our offense? There are so many versions of the spread in college football
now, it could be hard to say.
In the meantime, Texas fans are crossing their fingers that Texas Offensive
Coordinator Greg Davis doesn't go into his play calling shell against Ohio
State like he seems to do in every big game (ie Oklahoma) every year. Vince
Young's improvisations have bailed out Greg Davis for the most part the last two
seasons, but that may not work against Ohio State. So Texas fans hope Greg Davis
doesn't go conservative against Ohio State. The chatter on the Ohio State
boards is that Texas can be stopped if they keep Vince Young from running and
force him to pass. But that's what everyone tries to do against Texas nowadays.
