>From the history files, Ohio's first visit to Northwestern was a crushing
loss for the Cats:

1973 - Fresh off a close 21-14 loss at home to Tony Dorsett (276 yards
rushing) and the Pittsburgh Panthers, NU looked to even their record at 2-2
when Ohio visited Dyche Stadium. Down 14-10 with 2:53 left in the game, NU
sophomore Rich Boothe tried to plunge into the end zone from a yard out only
to see the ball stripped and the Bobcats recover. After three rushing
plays, Ohio quarterback retreated into the end zone to take a safety.
Although the Wildcats were able to get to the OU tirty in the final minute,
they were upset as part of a 4-7 season. 21,056 fans watched the game in
the first week of October. "This is one of the most disappointing losses
ever and that's the nicest thing I can say" said first-year head coach John
Pont.
