Well, my three-year-old son sings "Rise Northwestern" (main part of "Push
On") and other NU songs--and Minnesota songs--all the time! As I think I
might have mentioned here before at some point, he goes to sleep every night
listening to the "Hail to Purple" NUMB retrospective CD. Coincidentally,
just this morning as I was ironing my shirt before going to work, he asked
(presumably because he remembered that we are going to the Minnesota/tOSU
game on Saturday morning): "So when the Gophers tackle somebody or have a
good run or get a touchdown, do we sing 'Rise, Northwestern'?" I laughed
and said, "Well, usually when the Gophers make a good play we sing the
'Minnesota Rouser.' When Northwestern makes a good play, we sing 'Rise,
Northwestern' or 'Go U Northwestern.'" He responded, "Oh. But when the
Gophers make a good play, can I still sing 'Rise, Northwestern'? Me
(laughing again): "Sure."

Actually, I am going to be at a wedding reception during the game.
Arrggghhh!! If it was on broadcast television I would take my little
mini-LCD TV but, alas, I think I'm going to have to resort to taping the
game and trying to avoid all media until I see it. Uh-oh, wait--that may be
impossible, as we will be staying at my parents' place Saturday night after
the wedding, and they don't have cable! But wait again--my brother lives
only a few minutes from my parents, and I bet I can have him record the game
and I can pick up the tape on the way back from the wedding. I knew I'd
think of something. (I'm sure you all loved reading through my
stream-of-consciousness problem solving. Sorry.) :)
