I agree with your thoughts, Michael, but am happy that RW did not pass in
the latter stages. I never want to rub our opponents' noses in the dirt, since
what goes around comes around. As I said to my son when it became 49-14,
I'm used to seeing NU (or NW on ESPN) on the wrong side of that equation.
Let's savor the huge win, but let's not see Mr. Walker ever turn into "Steve
Superior" (even though our offense is beginning to look like something Spurrier
could have designed, albeit with a much better running attack!). Speaking of
our Head Coach, I think RW's affect on the sideline has been terrific, at
least from the TV shots--upbeat, intense, yet stoic. With GB, you always got
the feeling he knew the camera was on him and his "Hollywood" looks and he
played to it during the good years. The best shot of RW today was when he took
his headset off with a little over a minute left in the game. No gloating,
no glory, just a calm, satisfied look that this was what he expected. I've
never seen an NU team better prepared--our kicking game was superb; our
tackling for the most part, was awesome. Just one bad play-call from where I
sat--on my couch--and I said it to my son before the snap and ultimate fumble.
No way I call a shotgun from the 1 1/2 yard line on 1st and Goal. And then
Tyrell put the ball on the ground. I was really scared at that point that he
had put the season on the ground, too, but the defense rose up and smite the
Spartan empire (Troy--i.e., USC--couldn't have done it better today.).
Hope everyone doesn't get too nauseous with my hyperbole here, but this team is
just plain fun to pontificate about at this point.
