[NU Sports] annoying fans and PA announcers

I, too, dislike the new on-the-field reports but primarily because they turn
what could be (and used to be) a somewhat suspenseful moment into something
much more boring. It was a little disappointing for me to see that at the
Wisconsin game. I'm referring to the way in which the scores are delivered.
I used to love it when the PA announcer would say something like:
"Some updates from around the country:
[Insert team here] 21, Notre Dame [dramatic pause] 7." [crowd cheers]
This could well be done with the student on-the-field reporters. Just don't
say something as blasé as "Michigan State leads Ohio State 24-21 through
three quarters...." Instead, a lot more drama can be added simply by
reading the teams and number of points scored with appropriate timing.
Recaps of highlights would be fine after that. Just don't blow all of the
suspense in the first two words (e.g., "Wisconsin trails...."). Give the
crowd reason to pay attention!
Again, this isn't a knock on the reporters themselves, just the way the
scores have been scripted for delivery so far in this new experiment.

Michigan State's PA announcer used to be at the opposite extreme. His tone
used to be total deadpan, no matter who had the ball and no matter what they
did with it. He made comedian Steven Wright and Ben Stein's "Bueller...
Bueller" look lively. We haven't been up there in a couple of years, but if
I remember correctly, last time we were there he had a little more
inflection. It may have even been a different guy.
And NU's out-of-town score updates are downright frequent compared to what
you get at Ross-Ade. Some Purdue fans were complaining about it before the
game last week and sure enough, they were right.
I'm not sure I like the reporter on the field at Dyche though. It strikes
me as someone's RTVF project and without accompanying video (which would
make it cool) it doesn't add anything.
