[NU Sports] Big Ten today ...

I expect that Stanton and MSU will come out early and throw the ball around
the NU secondary, which they see (plausibly, of course) as vulnerable. I also
anticipate another close scoring festival with both teams marching up and
down the field. I just don't think, however, that we can continue indefinitely
to see the Offense bail us out in the final drive. We saw some signs of
improvement in the secondary against Purdue (although that was against a very
weak QB), but they will have to play much better for us to stay in the game
against a potent MSU offense.

I'm happy to chime in as one who had real (and has) real concerns about how
our D is going to hold up against our tough schedule.

What I've seen over the past couple of weeks is an interesting development
(particularly the Wisky game).

Big Ten teams have an expectation to be able to run the ball. They look at
NU and think that they are going to have a field day and often they do, but
no one has been able to shut down our offense. Our offense gets some quick
scores, gets a lead, doesn't turn the ball over, and begins to trade
touchdowns. All of a sudden it's the second half and these teams that have
been running all over us, feel like they have to start passing to catch up.
The fact that our pass defense is weak and gives them an opportunity
re-enforces that choice, but now the game has become a one-dimensional shoot
out. In a shoot out, we have as good an opportunity as anyone to win, and
probably better as the season goes along because we have more experience
with it.

It's a return to 2000 with the exception of the no huddle.

MSU should be an interesting game because they like to score too. Hopefully
it will be another case of whomever has the ball last.

Jeff

Enjoyed reading all the comments. My top 3:
1) After the loss to Penn State some of our dear listers thought we would
lose all our tough BT games. Repent!
2) Seeing ND lose the way they did warms my heart.
3) Baz is the best NU QB in the modern era, we are going bowling, if not
BCS, weather is great in Orlando.
