With Boston's World Series win last year lifting the curse of the Bambino
and the White Sox on track to banish the ghost of Shoeless Joe this year,
can Rocky Colavito's Curse or the Chicago Cubs' Goat be far behind?

No I think that there is something timeless and classic about the Cubs
approach to postseason baseball. It has become as much a tradition on the
northside as ivy. Every decade or so, a new crop of Cub fans (and players)
with no memory of past disappointments feel that their hope and pure
thoughts are going to make the difference this year. When the season
inevitably ends in another heartbreaking loss, they are officially turned to
the dark side. Their only hope of redemption is to pour more delusional
hope into next year. Thus begins a lifetime of bitter masochistic
codependency that is being a Cub fan.
Though this year is particularly sweet, observing this pattern is one of the
great things about being a lifelong Sox fan. We only rarely have the Sox to
support in the post season, but get to enjoy the Cubs passion play every
year.
