Now see, I love that. I love it when home fans create
a unique home atmosphere and cheer on their team. You
have a train whistle ... the roar of the train chug
(drum) ... all that stuff is great, IMO. Just like the
Nittany Lion roar. Some fans get annoyed - I love it.
I do see how it can tend to get annoying when done
every friggin play, like the USC band's 3-note tune,
but I wish NU had more of that zest and cheer from
their fans.
Wisconsin fans may be rude, crude and obnoxious ...
but I always say that no fans wear their team colors
more, clap in unison better (it's thunderous when
their band comes out pregame and the crowd claps in
unison) and create an intimidating home field
advantage as much as Badger fans. About the only thing
I like about when the sea of red comes to invade
Evanston every few years is that it usually spurs NU
fans to cheer a little more and we could certainly do
that more often (STAND UP ON THIRD DOWN!!!!!!! Bring
back the PURPLE mountain majesty and America the
Beautiful for pregame! CLAP AND STAND for Go U! etc.).
And I think NU has the best game announcer in the biz
(and best band announcer in the biz) -- so what if
it's cheering for the home team? I love hearing "FIRST
AND GOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL Northwestern!" boom from the
speakers!

Now that I won't defend. Boo coaches, boo bad calls
but there's never a good enough reason, IMO, to boo
college student athletes who are working their butts
off to give us the world's greatest sport every
Saturday in the fall. They're still not pros and
mistakes will happen - no reason to boo.
GO CATS!!!
