Couldn't agree more about the defense ...
Slightly different topic, if everyone will permit me to make an observation about the Wildcat offense.
It was great to see the Wildcats throwing on first down. As explosive as the NU offense is, the run-first, pass-second thing had become predictable.
Will be interesting to see whether this reflects a maturation of the Cat offensive scheme and personalities, or whether it was a one-game variation owing to some weakness the Wildcat coaches saw in the Purdue defense.
Also, I would love the Wildcats to come out early and throw deep. I mean, Raider-style deep. When was the last time any of us saw anything like that? Just a little something to say a pleasant good afternoon and offer a warm welcome to the opposing defense.
Five more in a row ... ! Go defense!

No one enjoyed the thrilling victory over the Boilers more than I,
especially the defense's big plays when needed. At the same time, let's stare reality
in the face. Purdue -- with the WORST quarterback the Cats will face this
season -- still rolled up 40-65 completions and 378 yards this season. Stanton
and Michigan State will present a much more intimidating offense than did
the Boilers. So, the defense's improvement ("only" 505 total yards yielded)
will have to continue or we could just as easily lose every remaining game on
our schedule except Illinois. We cannot count on the offense always rescuing
us after the weekly defensive meltdowns.

Look, quite honestly: did Michigan scare you Saturday?
They did not scare me. (I am glad they won -- though I
generally like to see PSU do well -- because now NU is
tied for first in the Big 10. Tied for first! Did
anybody think, after ASU, this would be the case?
[Yes, I know, NU is one play away from BEING in first
all by ourselves. Spilled milk, etc.])
Did Michigan State scare you? Did Iowa -- ahead of
Indiana by just 24-21 AT HOME late -- scare you?
Frankly, did Ohio State? (I suspect NU can count to
11, unlike Sparty.) Illinois? Get serious. I agree
with Paul -- why not a Big Ten title?
As flawed as this NU team is -- and it is, we all know
that -- these kids are two wins from a bowl and five
wins from a Big Ten title. Crack down on special
teams, cover a little better ... ah, let's dream for a
while.
