Three points:
1 - can any game in which you yield 500+ yards and 48 points on defense be considered great ? (even if you rack up 650+ yards and 51 points on offense).
2 - After a feeble coaching effort like that, Barry Alvarez should be forcibly retired.
3 - Can a game be considered 'great' (or even 'well-coached') if a 17 point lead with just over 4 minutes remaining nearly evaporates ?
There is a mind-set starting to settle in to Evanston (it has already infected the athletic office) that equates wide-open scoring (on both sides) with great football. I think the empty seats in the end zone (and the red seats on both sides) indicate that true Football fans can recognize the difference between quality football and two bad teams playing football.
All of that being said, however, the blown game against Penn State (also a Walker masterpiece ?) stings terribly now. With it, and the upcoming Illinois game, the Cats would only have to find 1 win between Purdue, Michigan State, Michigan, Iowa and Ohio State to get to a bowl. Now it will require two 'found victories' - tougher, but based on some of the Big Ten defenses out there, possible.

This one has to rank up there with the Michigan game and last year's
win against the Buckeyes. That loss to Penn State stings even more now.
What a nice retirement present we gave Barry. :-)
