Vanderlinden may be one of those coaches who makes a much better DC than
a head coach. (See Wannstedt, Dave.)
Based on what I heard about his years at Maryland, he flubbed that
opportunity and alienated himself from the fans and the administration
before his on-the-field results could overcome his off-the-field
weaknesses.
What is there that makes you think he would succeed as a head coach if
given a second chance?
Why could Vanderlinden do a good job of grooming Fitz and Walker not
do the same thing? I think Fitz is a few years away from being ready
to move up to DC. Unfortunately, I don't know if Walker can wait that
long to do something about the quality of his defensive teams.

On what do you base that statement?
