[NU Sports] NU vs. NW or NWU or whatever!

I would imagine it was a logical choice to abbreviate Northwestern
University NWU, and when they first were handing out domains on the
internet it was an easy choice to choose nwu.edu, since everyone had
relatively short domain names at the time. Starting in 1999, though,
Northwestern went to a more uniform identity and phased out nwu.edu
(all of those e-mail addresses have since stopped working... only
northwestern.edu addresses have been handed out since '99) and the
internet addresses using nwu.edu have also been phased out in favor of
northwestern.edu.
I think it would be good to have a uniform brand and be represented by
NU (that is what we call ourselves), but I don't think its worth
getting all knotted up over. On broadcasts people not familiar with
Northwestern may recognize NWU over NU. A uniform brand name (and
better marketing) would help the cause a little better, though.
