[NU Sports] A Champaign boast (fwd)

In terms of consecutive QB's I think you are right.

In terms of setting the bar, I think you have to start with Steve Schnur.
He took a team to the Rose Bowl and proved that teams with heart will find a
way to win.

As far as an avenue to the pros for QBs, I think that Michigan pretty much
has that covered these days. The NFL pays these guys way too much money for
them to run with the ball. They have to be big to take stay in the pocket,
see over the linemen, and take the hit. Other than the physical attributes,
Carr teaches QB's to trust the plan, let the game come to them, take what
the defense is giving, and if that's nothing, throw the ball away or take
the sack and live to play another day. It's that quality of consistency and
predictability that has make Michigan QB's popular in the pros.

I think our guys are more athletic, creative, and take more risks. Works in
the spread for NU. Doesn't work in the West Coast offense for the pros.

What's great is that we now have a tradition at the QB spot--the "bar" has
been set by first Zak and then raised by Baz (By the way, great names and
nicknames, eh.). Athleticism combined with brains and fantastic study
habits and fitness work (even special eye training exercises, in BB's
case). Not the big stud widebodies like Navarre or Henne, cause they are
not what is called for in the spread, but more mobile QB's with (at least
with  BB) a hell of an accurate arm.  Purdue has had a great QB tradition;
now I am reasonably optimistic that NU is going to be one of the places in
the first tier of the Conference that a QB will look to to develop the
game to go play on Sundays and to star on ESPN and The Deuce on Saturdays.
