[NU Sports] A Champaign boast

Yep, I was at that "Amazon Bowl" game -- the one in Brazil where the 'Cats
lost out to this incredible team of female warriors who cheated by bringing
their bows and arrows, right? And then we got jobbed by those horrible refs who
let the Amazons shoot poison darts at our quarterback when the clock was
running out! (Or maybe this is just a twisted recollection of the Hawaii game
last year.)

Look it's a free country and there's nothing to stop anyone who wants to fill
this list with anti-Walker rhetoric, no matter how nonsensical it might be.
(Although I wonder if we really needed a dozen anti-Walker posts yesterday in
less than 15 minutes. That may have been a new Sports List record.)
Everybody on this list knows that our defense has had more than its share of problems
this season, dating back to a spate of injuries and departures last summer.
Coaching isn't the only explanation for our defensive woes, and may not even be
the primary factor.

But gee whiz people WE'RE GOING TO A BOWL which is an accomplishment that few
of us would have predicted at the start of the season! Even with all their
problems, our defense showed tremendous heart and character and found a way to
stop some very good offenses when they needed to.

I, for one, have enjoyed this season and I hope Walker sticks around -- in my
opinion he's earned it. I hope the naysayers won't mind too much if I sit
back and enjoy the prospect of going to a bowl game. Thanks.

Walker is still making excuses for a poor defense, which in my opinion,
is more of a reflection on the coaching than on the players. If we have
to play UCLA in El Paso, it could be the Amazon Bowl all over again.
The NU offense when Basanez is focused is remarkable, no doubt about that.
