"Anyway, I'd hate to read of a top prospect, was high on NU, who decided to go
elsewhere because another team's assistants waved a whole pile of e-mails
calling for Walker's or Carmody's head and bought the argument that they would
not be there for the next 4 years because of "lack of alumni support."
D-I recruits are intelligent young men, and the ones that we are going after are, I would hazard to guess, a bunch of very intelligent young men. Include Internet savvy, and pretty wise in the ways of the world. If a John L Smith, Lloyd Carr or Joe Tiller waved said pile of e-mails in our prospect's vicinity, I'd imagine the young man would smirk...knowing there are THOUSANDS of e-mails out there with FIRE SMITH !, CARR'S AN IDIOT, and DUMP TILLER ! in their subject lines. Mike Nolan can probably guestimate for us how many CALLAHAN'S AN IDIOT e-mails are out there in internet land. In short, other than Pete Carroll and a few coaching legends, every D-I coach has been the subject of many, many HE MUST GO ! (as well as HE MUST STAY) e-mails. (Remember Paterno last season ?). The prospects are smarter than we give them credit for - they can filter out what's unimportant.
And Stephen noted:
"> Stanford football is 107-117-4, with a 73-85-2
> record in the Pac-10.
Interesting. Gasp! A losing record - time to pull the
trigger!:)"
Which Stanford did, as Buddy Teevens, after only three seasons, could attest.
