[NU Sports] hotels and TV

Jim, thanks for the post on Nashville hotels -- this
week, just in case, I made no-cost reservations at
hotels in Nashville, El Paso and Detroit. (The Hampton
Inn on 2330 Elliston Place in Nashville has rooms at
$99 a night).

I would warn that some other Nashville hotels ALREADY
have no rooms, and the ones that did had very high
rates, in the 140's and up, for basic chain hotels. I
should say I was seeking a place in the city and did
not look at the hotels out along I-40 and the like,
which are probably still available.

Also, many Nashville hotels required a hefty deposit,
sometimes the whole amount of your stay, up front.
(The Hampton Inn did not require any kind of deposit,
just a credit card # which they did not charge.)

I had no trouble booking nice places at reasonable
rates in Detroit and El Paso but Nashville was already
a minor hassle. I'd advise those who like to stay in
the city, and not by the freeway, to move quickly
should the Purple head to Music City USA. And as Jim
notes, if Tennessee is the foe, I'd move VERY quickly.

But barring a miracle (San Antonio) or disaster (Fort
Worth???) I am all set, for once; usually these bowl
trips are last-minute improvisations (I walked up and
got a room at the LA Hilton on New Year's Eve 1995,
somehow).

On Saturday TV: I believe smaller TV stations in many
markets are broadcasting the NU-Illinois game over the
air; in Philadelphia, WPHL-TV (Ch. 17), for example,
was on the list of clearances I saw. Ditto a station
in Boston. Careful searching of the TV listings may
bring 'Cat fans who cannot witness the slaughter of
the Illini in person a nice surprise.

Go 'Cats!!!
