Please, this is very far from what I am saying--Our academic standards are
higher than most. One way that this is apparant is by the amount of schools
who take prop 48 kids. Unfortunately for a whole host of socio-economic reasons,
African- Americans are dis -proportionately represented in the pool of prop
48 kids -(-see John Thompson)-However, there are plenty of African-American
kids who are eligible and RW has clearly found some of them and I suspect NU and
the kids most of the time are both better off for it. There are also plenty
of kids of all backgrounds who are great athletes but don't measure up to NU
academically- Obviously part of -RW's job is to find those that are and convince
them to attend--It's not easy when a large number of top athletes can't be
admitted for academic reasons, but I don't think any of us would want it any
other way
-Again all I am saying is that look at other football programs with similar
academic standards have not been consistent top 10 teams--why should we expect
us to be any different ?
