The five you listed below would be my top 5 - they all
seemed more improbable, IMO, than this Iowa one.
Though it was still great -- and the first time I
remember a recovered onside kick contributing to any
Cardiac Cats moment.
But that Michigan '96 game has gotta be #1 for me. It
was a game absolutely dominated by the Wolverines for
3 and a half quarters and all of a sudden a "perfect
storm" of defensive stuffs, offensive magic and
Michigan conservatism mixed for the unlikliest of
comebacks (as you say, we didn't just get 2 TDs and 2
two-point conversions ... we scored a TD and three --
actually four:) -- field goals).
Wisky '96, Minny '00 and Michigan '00 are a close
second -- all frantic, all amazing.
MSU '01 would be fifth on my list. That one kinda
seemed like this Iowa one -- a cruddy game for 55
minutes or so with little life. Then all of a sudden,
both teams started scoring like mad. Unlike Iowa's
stunned collapse, MSU matched our punch with that
kickoff return ... only to have Zak and Schweighardt
get into FG range.
But hey, I'll take any of 'em as long as they're wins.
Illinois '04 was a pretty improbable comeback as well
until Backes' punt return sent us into OT. I don't
care if we come back or rout 'em - just BEAT THE
BUCKS!!!
Great games all of 'em!
GO CATS!!!
