[NU Sports] What if.............. (fwd)

I think the highest bowl we would have a possibility of making would
be the Alamo, although they most likely would not take us since we
went in 2000 (and Michigan may very well be available for that bowl,
and they haven't gone there since 1995). PSU has all but locked up
the BCS bid. OSU a strong contender for an at large BCS bid, but some
teams ahead of them need to lose for them to move in (and a ND at
large bid would hurt their chances, with the Fiesta bowl most likely
taking ND). Depending on the final records, OSU, Michigan, and
Wisconsin will probably end up in the CapitalOne, Outback, and Alamo
bowls. Since Wisconsin was in the Outback last year and OSU was in
the Alamo, they will probably not see repeat appearances (although if
they are available they will probably be taken over a team like us).
I doubt that we will have enough draw to leap into one of those spots,
unless we win out and one of the teams listed above loses their final
2 games (in which case they still may be selected ahead of us). NU
and Minnesota are the only remaining currently bowl eligible teams,
and Minnesota has a tough remaining schedule and may not pick up
another win while we have a good chance of picking up one more. If
the Sun wants to pick us I think they will have good reason to do so,
considering we have never been and the other teams available have had
relatively disappointing seasons (Minnesota, possibly MSU and Iowa,
probably not Indiana). The Music City bowl would almost definitely
take us since the would have last year, and probably don't want a
repeat Minnesota visit. I doubt we'll see another visit to Motor City
since if MSU is available they will take them without a doubt. As
long as we pick up another win there is no reason why we would be
passed over by all the Big Ten bowls.
I think after this Saturday the picture will become much clearer,
although it may come down to the final week of conference play to lock
everything in place (I know Wisconsin has Hawaii after that, but I'm
sure they will try to confirm their bowl before going to play in the
stadium where bowl dreams die).
