[NU Sports] firing coaches

One of the national internet guys noted that this is a
strange season: it's hard to find many coaches in a
BCS league who are likely to get fired or "asked to
resign" after this season.

Certainly no Big Ten coach seems endangered, though
Sparty may want a staff shakeup from Smith. SEC? Rich
Brooks, certainly, but nobody else. ACC? Amato may
have saved his gig with the win at FSU and Gainey's
good season makes him safe. Big East? Schiano did what
he had to at Rutgers to keep his job. Wannstedt will
(undeservedly) get another year. Big 12? Okla. St. is
a new guy; maybe Pickel at Missouri? Callahan seems to
have administration support to survive. Pac-10? Nobody
I can see.

There could be a retirement or two that could open a
spot, maybe, though no place pops to mind (Bill
Snyder, maybe?). It could be a season with NO BCS
coaching openings -- though I think Brooks is toast.

I agree with Steve -- no way should Perdoo get rid of
Tiller. He's been tremendous -- PU was awful before he
showed up. Had Minnesota collapsed as usual I think
Mason could have felt heat, but once they won at
Michigan for the Jug he was safe. As for Carr, yes,
you would think he would win more -- Michigan gets its
pick of players -- but his record is darned good.
Michigan fans who want him gone should consult with
Pittsburgh, say, or Syracuse, or Nebraska, as to what
happens when an "underachieving" but successful coach
is pushed out.
