[NU Sports] Bets anyone?

I certainly hope Coach Amonte Hiller stays. However, I also note that the Gopher women's b-ball team has done even better under Pam Borton (three straight sweet sixteens, including a final four trip in 2004 and a close loss to the eventual national champs this year) than under her predecessor Brenda Frese (nee Oldfield). Even though Frese has been done well in resurrecting Maryland, the Gophers also have done better than the Terrapins since Oldfield was lured away after being named AP National Coach of the Year in 2002. Moral: The departure of a great coach doesn't have to mean doom and gloom for a recently successful program (assuming you can find another great coach). In any event, I think you're right that Amonte Hiller likely will get some good looks and maybe some good offers from Eastern schools, possibly including Maryland. -Joe

Does anyone care to make book on how long Kelly Amonte Hiller stays at
Northwestern before some institution like Johns Hopkins or an ACC school like
Maryland comes courting?
Debbie Yow, the AD at Maryland, is notorious for going after successful
coaches. Think Minnesota and women's basketball.
