"There are elements of b-ball (passing, making fakes to get open or get
a teammate open, the way you play defense), soccer (but without the
boredom), hockey, and broken-field running and speed moves straight out
of football. And NU has some players with serious speed!"
Lacrosse earned my deepest respect a while back, when I learned that Jim Brown was All-American at Syracuse in both Football and Lacrosse, and that many who saw him play considered him to be the greatest Lacrosse player that they had ever seen. Further, the rule that players must keep their sticks in motion while carrying the ball was implemented (as I understand it) to control Brown (if that were even possible).
With our fine tradition of tough running backs, maybe we are missing an opportunity by not having a Men's Lacrosse team. Ohio State and Penn State seem to be the only two Conference teams to have programs. Duke and Notre Dame do also, but Stanford does not. In fact, it looks like only Air Force and Denver have programs that are located west of Evanston.
