I went to Northwestern's baseball game in L.A. on Sunday. We made seven
errors and fell behind, 10-1. To the team's credit, we never gave up,
scored five in the 9th, only to fall short by a final score of 11-8.
Okay, it's baseball. We've never been too good in baseball. Yet, the
parents in the stands believe that the team is on the cusp of moving to
a new level. I hope they're right.
But that's not why I'm writing. I saw NU's baseball uniforms, which
were rather traditional (except for the caps which had some sort of
Wildcat on it -- no N, no logo). The jerseys simply said "Northwestern"
on the front and had numbers on the back. Nothing at all on the side of
either sleeve. It seems to me that the N-cat logo should have been
there on one of the sleeves.
Our N-cat logo is one of the best in all of college sports. We have it
on the middle of our basketball floor, but it is not on our basketball
uniforms. It seems to me that it should be on both sides of our team's
basketball shorts. Our logo is nowhere to be seen on the field of play
at Ryan. It can be spotted on the elevated part of the grass near the
Wildcat statue, but it would look a lot better in the middle of the
field. The logo is on the sleeves of our football jerseys (although
it's way too small), but it seems to me that it should be on both sides
of our football team's helmets.
In short, our logo should be everywhere. It's recognizable, and it is
extremely cool. Our football helmets right now are very boring.
Utilizing a great logo to a greater degree can only help with marketing
and recruiting as well.
Anyone agree or disagree?
